Seek First the Kingdom of God
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness;
and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
What do you think this verse means? Why do you think God put it in the Bible?
What does the word “Seek” mean?
How do you “seek” something or someone?
To seek means to search for something: to try to find a person, thing, or place
Or it means to strive for something - to try hard to achieve or get something.
This verse is telling us to seek God’s Kingdom - to actively go look for it or try hard to get there.
God tells us to seek His Kingdom first.
What does first mean? Who likes to be first? Why? Who likes to be last? Why don’t people like to be last?
What does the word Kingdom mean?
Who lives in a Kingdom?
What do you think God’s Kingdom looks like? Is that somewhere you want to live?
What kind of rules do you think there are in God’s Kingdom? Where do you find God’s rules or laws?
Is it important to live by the laws of a Kingdom? How come? What happens if you don’t?
(Draw a picture of what you think God’s Kingdom looks like. Or put together a giant family picture of God’s Kingdom)
(Make a list of what God’s rules are for you to follow. List any other family rules or laws that you should include that your mom or dad want you to follow.)
What does the word “Righteous” or “Righteousness” mean?
Righteousness means to be able to stand in front of God and know that you are alright. It means that you don’t have to be afraid of being with God or coming to Him if you need Him or just want to talk to Him.
Righteous does not mean that you are right all the time, but it does mean that God will forgive you if you ask for His forgiveness. If you do something wrong and you (repent) try not to do it ever again and you ask God to forgive you, He will forgive you and forget you ever did it. He will love you and continue to bless you because you are righteous in His eyes. He sees you through the blood of Jesus. He sees you like He sees Jesus - all good and obedient.
What does the Bible mean then when it says to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness;
and all these things shall be added to you? What do you think God wants you to do? Can you do this? How?
(Write down or draw what you can do to
seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. )
Post your answers on the board. It will be interesting to find out what everyone thinks. I'm going to try some new lessons and I would love to know your opinion. Love ya, Miss April
